"Strange Affair" takes First Prize

I have just heard that "The Strange Affair of the Ethiopian Treasure Chest" has won first prize in the 2011 Wishing Shelf awards -- in a competition open only to small presses and independent publishers. The organizers entered my book in category 2, for 6-8 year old children -- and the judging was done by children in that age group, from primary schools mostly in the London area. Dead chuffed -- it's the first time any of my books has won a prize, and it's very satisfying that it came out on top in a competition which contained both fiction and non-fiction entries.

It's a nice accolade for Boz Groden too, since his fantastic illustrations were vital for the overall concept and the "atmosphere" of the story.

Results:

CATEGORY 2 (6 – 8 Year Olds)

WINNER The Strange Affair of the Ethiopian Treasure Chest, by Brian John
SECOND A First Guide to Space Creatures, by Faiz Kemani
THIRD The Ghostly Boy, by Simon Pullman
